This hotel is housed in one of San José’s most beautiful old stucco homes, right on busy Paseo Colón. However, the rooms are all located away from the street and are pretty well insulated against the noise. Built more than 110 years ago, this old home has received regular upkeep and upgrading, yet is nevertheless richly appointed and surprisingly evocative of 19th-century Costa Rica. The rooms are all very comfortable. I’d definitely try to grab one of the rooms on the second floor, which feature wooden floors and front doors that open onto the open-air central courtyard. The master suite comes with its own balcony and Jacuzzi. There are beautiful details throughout the hotel: transoms, ornate stucco doorframes, and polished hardwood floors.
