San Jose Travel Guide

San José is one of the youngest capitals of Latin America. Nowadays it's a modern city with bustling commerce, brisk expressions of art and architecture, and spurred by the country's improved tourism industry, a significant destination and stopover for foreign visitors.

About San Jose

San Jose covers an area of 3.7 sq. miles (9.47 sq. Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.6 million people being the capital and largest city of Costa Rica, and is at the heart of the sprawling Gran Area Metropolitana or GAM in the Central Valley.

Corteza Amarilla Art Lodge & Spa

Artistic touches abound in this whimsical hotel. Most of the rooms are classified as junior suites, although they really are just good sized rooms, with no separate sitting area, or other distinguishing factor that I usually associate with a junior. These are found in a series of individual and duplex buildings spread around the hotel’s lush grounds. All come with wood floors, stone showers and artsy tile work on the bathroom sinks and counters. I prefer no. 4 through no. 7, which have higher ceilings. The two master suites are in the main building, and are larger, and come with massive flat screen television sets and a good-sized private patio garden. A variety of treatments and therapies are offered at the small spa here, and the in-house restaurant is excellent. This hotel is located, just outside of Santa Ana, on the main road to Ciudad Colón.
